Never met him. I wish I did. But I watched a ton of games, especially when the Reds played the Dodgers bc they telvised the dodger games in LA. That's a riot, sir. My mom was fighter too. I guess they all are...Great story!

I'd vote for inducting Pete in the HOF posthumously and including an accurate and even handed description of the gambling issues in his bio. That's all part of his history and the game's history.

I live about 25 miles from Johnny Bench’s hometown. Growing up everyone here loved Johnny and the Big Red Machine. We all got to meet and get balls signed by Johnny Bench on numerous occasions. In 1979 Pete Rose went to the Phillies and they came to Oklahoma City to play the AAA 89’s. My mom loaded my brother, me and some friends up to take us to the game and meet Pete Rose. He was a complete ass and our 5’ 100lb Mom was ready to fight him for acting the fool. We hated him until the game started. He played just as hard in an exhibition as the Series. I don’t know if there’s been anyone play as hard over a career as Pete Rose. Shame on the HOF.

We're the same age. I cried when the Phillies traded Richie Ashburn. Pete Rose was not a perfect person. He had flaws, like being a little baseball genius crazy. He was a Phillies player in the early 80's. After one game driving home, he & his girl were in front & in back of us in identical sports cars, one red, one white. They pulled into the Sheraton next to the Airport. He was a great, great baseball player & I got to see him live. He took balls & hit strikes hard. There were no baseball flaws. He belongs in the Hall of Fame right next to Ty Cobb.
