Trump took a question from a Finnish reporter during The Hague press conference yesterday. Mentioned purchasing “15 icebreakers”. Seems like a lot of icebreakers. Isn’t it strange that a room full of professional journalists wouldn’t ask the obvious follow-up question, “Why does the US need so many ice breakers?” Yours truly can’t help but think that it’s part of the Fortress North America plan. Public reference to Canada and Greenland has subsided, but one wonders what’s going on behind the scenes…
Interesting in light of commentary I’m reading from Peter Boockvar, and newsy bits in general.
Not that it’s all negative, but robust I’ve read is most often with industries front running potential tariffs, and yes, during May, as tariffs have been a moving target.
Another surge after the “Yips”, if I’m not mistaken?
Otherwise the opposite. Weakness. There’s no shortage of data and anecdotal evidence showing slowed order growth and subdued industrial activity, with the principles claiming uncertainty halting or curtailing order flows, until things calm or clarify. Perhaps that’s old news? Can you hope, if it’s not a strategy?

However there was no evidence of front running in previous Durable Goods data going back 10 years… especially in Q4 and Q1 when it skewed GDP and that lead me that attribution to Trump on the chart more than the data per se. What if we’re wrong? Yesterday he said over 100 new plant are under construction. What that’s really happening?
